Hardin County Community Endowment Foundation Program Director Tam Elerding updated the Board of Supervisors on a 20-year celebration for the program that is planned on Thursday, Nov. 13. Supervisors seated from left include Chair Lance Granzow, Renee McClellan, and BJ Hoffman.

Elerding was seeking a proclamation from the Supervisors which would declare Saturday, Nov. 15, as National Philanthropy Day, however, the associated document was not prepared. The Supervisors tabled the request until next week’s meeting.

However, Elerding had other items to share. “Hardin County Community Endowment Foudation has a disaster recovery fund,” she explained. “I wanted to make sure that everyone knew about that.”

She also said the fund was started several years ago after tornado and derecho events, and the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines encouraged HCCEF to start that fund in Hardin County. “Our board gave $10,000 to start that fund, and we haven’t had any contributions since then. I want to bring that to everybody’s attention.”

Elerding also informed the Supervisors that the HCCEF is 20 years old this year, “and we’re going to have a celebration.” The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Timbers Edge Wedding and Event Centre north of Steamboat Rock. The theme will be decadent desserts with a glass of wine, she said.

Individuals from Hardin County organizations that qualify as a 501(c)3 can put their name in a drawing, and Elerding said $20,000 will be given away during that event. The money may be split between all who enter. “If we have 10 in the drawing, maybe they’ll each get $2,000,” she said. “It’s just an exciting way for us to give back to the country and to all the non-profits that work so hard.”
